Do I need Professional Mold Remediation?

Question 1: Is anyone experiencing health issues?

Not all types of mold produce mycotoxins that are harmful to humans, but if someone is experiencing health issues, then it might be better to let the professionals at All Dry handle it so that we can take the proper precautions to protect ourselves and everyone else.

Question 2: Is the moldy area larger than 10 square feet?

According to the EPA, if the moldy area is less than 10 square feet, then you can generally handle the remediation yourself. For larger jobs, you should call in professionals at All Dry to ensure that the mold doesn't accidentially spread during the remediation process.

Question 3: Is the mold near or in the HVAC system?

The HVAC system is very delicate and can easily spread mold spores if not handled with expertise. We highly recommend calling a professional if there is mold near the HVAC system and not try to handle it yourself.

Question 4: Was the mold caused by water damage or flooding?

If you suspect the mold grew from a water loss or flood, especially if from contaminated water, then call in the professionals at All Dry to perform the remediation. Most likely there is mold in areas that you can't see or detect that we have the expertise & experience to find, treat and disinfect.

Question 5: Are you comfortable tackling the mold yourself?

Remediating mold can be uncomfortable from the sights, smells, PPE, equipment, antimicrobial chemicals, etc. If you're not comfortable dealing the remediation, then it's best to call in the professionals at All Dry to minimize the risk of making the problem worse.

Determine Source of Mold

It's very important to determine & fix the source of the mold, because the remediation will be futile if the source remains in place since the mold will just grow back. The most common sources of mold are secondary damage from a water loss that was not properly dried out, constant moisture (i.e. minor long-term plumbing issues) or humid & stale air.

Determine Affected Areas

Our technicians use many techniques, tools (boroscopes, thermal cameras, etc.) and experience to determine the visibily affected areas, but also the areas that are not visible like behind the walls, in the ceiling cavity, etc. We also determine the environment that led to the mold and determine if similar environments exist elsewhere, because a similar environment will promote similar growth.

Mold Assessment

For large or complex mold remediations, we suggest including certified third-party mold assessors (industrial hygienist) on the project. They can perform testing to determine where the mold is, design a remediation protocol and perform post-remediation testing to validate that mold has been cleared. While other remediation companies may perform testing, we strictly do not perform testing so that we don't have a conflict of interest.

Detailed Estimate

We only perform mold remediation; we don't perform the rebuild. This means that we only do what's needed to remove the mold and nothing additional. We will document exactly what needs to be done and explain why each step is necessary.

Protect & Contain

Containment

Before starting any remediation, we must ensure that we're not going to make the problem worse by disturbing mold spores during remediation and spreading them to unaffected areas. This is why we setup containment with thick plastic, glue and sealing tape before starting any remediation to isolate and contain mold spores.

Negative Air Pressure & HEPA Filteration

In addition to the containment, we setup negative air pressure in the containment; this ensures that air only enters the containment and does not exit the containment without first going through HEPA air scrubbers to ensure mold spores don't leave the containment.

PPE

Mold remediation is serious and our team will wear full PPE while in the containment to protect themselves. N95 masks are not sufficient; our team wears full-face respirators, gloves, Tyvek suits, etc.

Remediation & Disinfection

Demolition

Unfortunately, an important step for mold remediation is demolition. Any porous materials (drywall, carpet, etc.) cannot effectively be cleaned of mold spores, so they must be removed and disposed. In addition, we may need to demolish anything in the way of us getting access to the mold in order to treat it.

Disinfection

We use a combination of abrasive effort and antimicrobial solution to remove mold from anything that cannot be removed (i.e. is not porous or is structural). In addition, we run HEPA air scrubbers that replace the air 8 times per hour to ensure we filter out mold spores released into the air before they can spread.

Encapsulation

We encapsulate any porous materials that cannot be removed because they are structural with antimicrobial sealant to contain the growth within the material. This is a step that many professional remediation companies skip, but we at All Dry want to ensure a long-term remediation.

What Makes us Different

Why Call All Dry?

We're not a restoration company; we're a customer service company!

We work only for YOU

Unlike other restoration companies, we don't do "program" work, which are discount pricing deals between insurance companies and restoration companies in exchange for being an insurance "preferred" vendor.

Our staff are not commissioned

We minimize conflict of interest by not tying our team's compensation to the scope of the job - so they can focus on doing the right thing.

5-star Rated on Google

We wear our customer's trust and kind words as a badge of honor.

We only do water damage mitigation - no rebuild

This is a key difference between All Dry and other restoration companies; we minimize conflict of interest of expanding the scope of the damage beyond the loss which will simplify the rebuild and claims process for you.
